Recently, I made a post asking between Costco and Target. There were many great suggestion but after really considering Target, I've chosen Costco and thought maybe could share an outside perspective on why.
Costco, has expanded internationally, its reputation in the states is not the same as internationally. As born and raised American, Costco, in the states is a great choice but there's equally competitive alternative with same brands, or similar quality. It does not stand like a beacon representing status.
This is not the case internationally. Living in Mexico for the past few years, Costco, is bar none the best retail store for American products and brands with the highest quality foods with no rivals. Its a status symbol here, where the upper class shop to escape the lower class even.
The brand Apple has achieved this status effect too, Costco, has achieved this effect internationally. At least in South America, in Mexico in the states I've visited and its very apparent. Costco, is the best money can buy with no rivals here. It's like driving a Mercedes or owning the latest Iphone, shopping at Costco here in Mexico.
The other reason, Target, has achieved and made its presence now as an online retailer. Costco, has yet to tap into this market. As someone who shops regularly for deals for collectibles, Target, has received a lot of business from our niche of recent, but Costco in-store has equally amazing deals which a lot of us collectors WISH we could find online on the Costco website. I believe this is hugely untapped potential for Costco, as well as its growing international presense. This just my 2-cents from currently out-of-the states perspective.
