Cisco reached an ATH of $80.06 per share in March 2000, and it’s remained fairly stagnant ever since it’s share price crashed when the bubble burst.
They had a bunch of stock splits in the 90s and one in February 2000 because their share prices kept climbing. But ever since the bubble burst they’ve they’ve struggled to regain that momentum. They just lost another 20% over the last month (14% today) because of poor guidance and another revenue miss.
My question is this: for a company that absolutely dominates the network hardware and VoIP markets, how have they lost so much of their market cap since 2000 and never regained it? They were vying for most valuable company in the world with Microsoft in 2000. That’s mind-blowing to me. I work in networking and their products are everywhere. Their certifications are still industry standard, yet the company keeps losing their shareholders’ money. Is the leadership notoriously incompetent or what?
