I've looked this question up online, but I'm pretty new to investing so I'm having trouble understanding it. Why is it that diverse stocks from different industries seem to move together for the most part? For example, today (12-30-19) most of the stocks and indexes moved down anywhere from .6% to 1% right when the market opened, and then started climbing up slowly again at 10:30. Why does this happen?
