When to enter S&P 500 for long term investment

I know the market has been extra volatile given the recent slide. I’m not trying to day trade or even make short term gains. I finally have enough saved up that I’m ready to start investing into a S&P 500 fund through fidelity.

Should I wait a little bit to see if the market is going to slide? If I don’t need the money soon, should I just wait until after the election? What are your thoughts and recommendations given my situation?

Open to any kind of investor advice as a first time investor looking to set themselves up after starting their first post-college job.
