When someone give you a “hot tip” and if you don’t know anything about the company, what is your research process?

Assume you do take the person seriously about their stock recommendation and while you don't know anything about the company but would like to find out. What is your research process?

This can go all the way from your initial 30 seconds screen to see if its warrens any further research all the way to high level spreadsheet analysis, what is your process?

To start I like to share mine.

First of all, I obviously find out what does the company do, then check out their 1 month, 3 month, 1 year, 5 year stock price to see how volatile it is or what category it belongs to. (stable value, profitless growth, pump n dump penny stock etc)

Most of them they are worthless and I just stop right there, but if I think its good, I would check out its PEG, PE, cash and debt to see if they are in a good position.

Then I would read the initial company statement do more detailed sector research for that stock, to see what the industry/sector that its currently belong to if I don't already have a good idea about it. I also briefly look at the chart to see if any obvious technical pattern/trend is standing out.

All of this would take maximum 20 minutes or so and that's pretty much as far as my research goes and I feel like I'm missing something and I like to be more efficient. Any suggestions?

Can you guys briefly share your processes?

Thanks in advance.
