What’s with stop losses not being applicable in after hours?

I'm quite the moron and lost a good sum of money before finding out about stop losses. Now that I'm finally trying to enact them I'm seeing they only apply during regular market hrs. Now I'm not one who's been here long but even I've seen my fair share of stocks hit all-time highs right in the closing minute only to dive to all-time lows immediately in after-hours. How is one to mitigate their risk if the largest dumping point usually occurs after all my safety measures become nullified??

As a note: I'm using WeBull and Fidelity. Both I've read don't support stop losses outside of market hours
