What physically causes stocks to change?

I’m not asking for what things determine the price of a stock like supply and demand or speculation. I wanna know what physical entity makes stock A go from $100 to $101. Is it a computer algorithm? Is it a guy hitting a button at a desk in Wall Street? I can’t get an answer to this because when ever I try to look it up I just get articles about supply and demand. The stock market just seems like black box that I’m throwing money into and I want to know how it physically functions. I’ll also accept book recommendations that go more in depth on this topic. Sorry if this is a dumb question.
