what is the annual return for vti

I started investing at 18 and all I do is put money into vti in a Roth and a taxable account. I hear people plugging in 10% as a conservative annual compound for vti. Is this conservative for vti or is the annual compound much lower? I plan on but ng and holding for the next 40 years of my life.
