What does book value and trading at, near, or below book value mean to you?

Just curious if people think it’s a good indicator of value for a long term (if you like the future of the company) or short term (if you think it will get closer to book value, if below it) position. I have no idea about the company but my dad was talking about RIDE and they’re trading below book value, along with another I’ve been watching (ATER). I imagine a lot of other stocks are hitting these levels too, or getting near them. Is it worth considering the book value when thinking about a position or do you only use other numbers?
