What do you think about my dca strategy?

I just started reading up on stocks. Have been trying to post here but mods delete everything I post.
One term that I am seeing often is dca.
Is my understanding correct – you spend fixed amount of money every month to buy a stock. – ?
What are the strategies and tools do you use for dca?
I am planning to put $500 into vti every month. Is this a good plan?
