CNN’s just-launched di­rect-to-con­sumer stream­ing ser­vice CNN+ is shut­ting down, a per­son with knowl­edge of the mat­ter said.

Update: An an­nounce­ment is ex­pected as early as Thurs­day, the per­son said. In­com­ing CNN Chair­man and Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Chris Licht, who hasn’t even of­fi­cially as­sumed his role yet, told staffers of the de­ci­sion on Thurs­day morn­ing, the per­son said. An­drew Morse, the ex­ec­u­tive in charge of the ser­vice, is leav­ing the com­pany, the per­son said.

The move to shut­ter the ser­vice on April 30, merely a month af­ter it launched, comes only a week af­ter CNN’s par­ent com­pany Warn­er­Me­dia was taken over by Dis­cov­ery Com­mu­ni­ca­tions. Dis­cov­ery’s ex­ec­u­tives were du­bi­ous about the strat­egy of the ser­vice even be­fore its deal to ac­quire the com­pany closed, ac­cord­ing to peo­ple fa­mil­iar with the com­pa­ny’s think­ing.

CNN’s pre­vi­ous regime, with back­ing from for­mer Warn­er­Me­dia CEO Ja­son Ki­lar, spent $300 mil­lion on de­vel­op­ing CNN+, peo­ple fa­mil­iar with the op­er­a­tion said. CNN wooed big-name tal­ent, in­clud­ing Fox News an­chor Chris Wal­lace, to join the ser­vice.
