I spent about 10 years actively trading from 2010 through 2020, day trading, swing trading, and even buy-and-hold investing across multiple accounts and portfolios.
In 2020, I sold half of my holdings, took the cash, and bought rental properties. I can say factually that was the right move as all of my real estate holdings are up about 50% since purchasing them.
However, on the securities side, I am holding the remaining positions I had since cashing out and am accumulating cash. I have a lot more time to do other things but am tempted to start trading again just to have something challenging to do.
My conviction is to wait at least until 23Q1 before getting back into active trading and I plan on holding to that. It’s just a bit boring setting aside something I’ve done for 10 years.
Has anyone else dealt with trading withdrawal and, if so, what did you do?
