At the end of summer last year my mother asked me whether i thought a recession was coming soon and so i provided with her what i thought was an honest assessment based on a lot of my research. I told her that if i had to give an answer with a gun to my head, then yes, i believed one was just around the corner. Of course i prefaced this with it not being financial advice (as I'm no professional) and that ultimately it was her decision to make because it is her money. She sought further advice from her advisor at raymond james who told her to just keep her money invested.
Fast forward to today and her portfolio has suffered massive losses like i'm sure everyone else has in their retirement accounts. she is now considering moving everything over to cash and i'm trying to figure out whether it's too late now. I know that in time historically, the market makes recoveries and in retirement, she won't be using all the money she has in that portfolio right away and the money in it will still have the exposure to the markets and ultimately the potential for the rebound.
Now, if she were still in her 20s and 30s obviously it'd make sense to just leave it in there but as she's close to retirement, I'm unsure of what the strategy might be and what options to consider.
I apologize in advance if this subreddit isn't the proper place to have this discussion,.. though it doesn't seem like i'm breaking any of the rules. and also, thank you!
