Thoughts on future for solar and wind stocks (TAN and FAN specifically)?

Basically I started investing in August 2021. Created an account with $5000 on Fidelity, but really did not know what I was doing (I still don’t really) so I just invested in companies I knew and things that I thought sounded cool. Invested $1000 each in Microsoft, Google, and Fidelity 500 Index Fund, and $500 each in TAN (solar energy) and FAN (wind energy). I left my remaining $1000 in Fidelity Government Money Market Fund.

Basically 2022 was horrible to me, like for most people. Lost more than $1000 at the worst point, but didn’t sell anything. Right now I’m at around $4800. What I’m conflicted about is that I want to invest for the long term, but I still haven’t broken even. From my limited knowledge I would like to invest only in bonds and index funds since I’ve heard that bonds are pretty reliable but slow and the market as a whole tends to go up. Ideally would like around 10% growth.

So I’ve been considering selling the TAN and FAN stocks since they have not been doing too well (FAN is at $405 and TAN is at $340 now). But also my dad, who has been investing for 40 years, tells me that solar and wind are likely to rise in the next few decades because of more reliance on renewable/sustainable energy. I’m wondering if it will eventually be worth it if I hold onto them since I don’t want to lose money by selling prematurely. But I also don’t want to keep waiting in vain as I slowly lose even more money. So I guess what I’m asking for are some opinions on the future of solar and wind stocks. Do you expect them to be profitable in the future or would it be better to invest in something else?
