We had a $15-$20 or more for full service broker per trade costs. We had slow information access. We had to really do our research before pulling the trigger on a stock because it was expected to be a slow growth process… those days are forgotten by many who have $5 or free trades and mountains of over-information access to heaps of margin or disposable income. So where am I going with this… take a breath… instead of looking at the near term, pull the chart out backwards and look at the 1970s, 1980s and even the 90s. We may very well be heading for very similar markets where stuff simply didn’t move while people were still hungover from their previous losses and the government was not coming to save them. If you don’t know what I am talking about, move on… if you do take pause and watch this market burn for a few months and be ready that the stock portfolio used to have bonds in it… todays average investor is 100% long stocks. Hope that reflection helps someone. Good luck.
