Terminology question – specific complex asset mix for institutions?

Hi all, I’m googling but cannot find. What was the enigmatic mix of intuitional assets made popular in 2008 that ended up taking us down? Starts with an E? It’s a very complex mix that has toxic mortgage assets buried in it.
