Tax Question

Novice question here.
For this fiscal year, I have roughly $2k in profit from options.
If I want to balance out the profit, what's stopping me from realizing a loss on current stocks I own that I am bullish on long term. For example, If I sold my microsoft, nvidia, and apple position, I would have a ~$2k loss and then could buy right back in at a nearly identical price point. Is this legal? (US)
