This is a pretty straightforward forward question that I’m having trouble finding the answer to.
Hypothetically, say I lost 10k in the stock market in 2021 (after selling) but this year (2022) I made 10k. Would I owe taxes on my gains for this year? Do they even factor in your overall losses outside of the calendar year?
