Mercado Libre was an interesting stock back in 2020/2021, seemed like everyone was talking about it in the bull market. I couldn’t help but buy a few shares of Mercado Libre around $1200. The problem is that you sort of have to believe in the Latin America growth story for the thesis to work out long term. Many countries have weaker financial institutions including a large unbanked population without checking accounts. And the internet penetration rates can be really low in some countries. Also some might say Latin America has corruption and political risks.
Do we think that the bull thesis is still intact for Mercado Libre. Or is it a sell? One of the things I often hear on this sub is never buy the X of Y. Just by the X and move on. So if one follows that logic would buying PYPL really be better than buying MELI.
