Since I see people crying around how unfair the recent S&P500 performance is, a comparison how other major indices did in the past decades

The following numbers are ex. dividends and not inflation adjusted. Don't understand me wrong, if you would have kept DCA and compounded the dividends, you'd be still up in most of the cases, I just want to illustrate how exceptionally well the S&P500 has performed in the past 2 decades compared to other major indices and how people who are complaining about the recent performance are just spoiled crybabies.

Dax (Germany): As of now lower than at the dotcom bubble peak more than 20 years ago and is barely higher (less than 10%) than prior to the GFC 15 years ago.

FTSE100 (UK): less than 10% up since dotcom bubble and 2007 peak and still down since prior to brexit.

Nikkei (Japan): Still significantly down from the 1989 peak 33 years ago.

Hangsen index (Hong Kong): Still significantly down since 2007 peak.

Shanghai index (China): Still down more than 50% since 2007 peak.

CAC40 (France): Still down since dotcom bubble peak and barely up since 2007 peak.

Euro stoxx (Europe): Still down since dotcom bubble and 2007 peak

Almost all of the emerging markets have performed poorly in the past decade in USD terms and are down from their peaks years or decades ago.
