Since everyone seems to be talking about recession

Can someone explain how is recession a possibility? It's unlikely that Fed will raise rates beyond 3% and with such a neutral rate, how is recession a possibility? I believe the definition of recession is two consecutive quarters with negative GDP growth Didn't we already have that in 2020? So what exactly causes recession and what are the triggers that may cause a recession soon? Also does the stock market necessarily need to fall during recession? Can't it just remain sideways and ride it out?
