Not sure if this goes under company or industry discussion because it's about 2 specific companies in the same industry. Sorry if it's flaired wrong.
I'm new to all this, but I'm curious about investing in NVIDIA and Intel. To me it looks like there are both good and bad things about both so I don't know if it's the right time to invest.
NVIDIA has a huge stake in AI, they make some of the best hardware for it, and AI's huge right now, plus there are leaks (from sources which have previously proven accurate) of a new gaming/creator GPU for the high-end desktop market (a potential Titan RTX ADA or RTX 4090 Ti), which NVIDIA hasn't had an offering for for a few years. However, it sounds like they have a lot of unsold inventory of gaming GPUs, which is concerning.
I have less info on Intel, but there's recently been discussion of future 1.8- and 2-nanometer process nodes from them, which is really promising. However, their recent high-end CPUs have been widely considered “uncoolable” when overclocked and extremely difficult to cool when run at stock speeds (see the recent Linus Tech Tips video where they cooled an i9-13900k with a 5000W chiller, titled “The God of Computer Coolers.” Meanwhile, their gaming GPUs have generally flopped. However, smaller transistors are known to consume less power and generate less heat (although transistor counts will likely massively increase).
