What makes a stocks price go down?
you might be thinking “when a lot of people sell stock and sentiment is low it goes down”. Well yeah, but the thing is, is that you can only sell to other buyers… if you cant connect to a buyer your stuck with your shares. Meaning that everyone who cant sell those shares STILL OWNS THOSE SHARES. These shares don’t just go into the abyss and disappear forever.
As far as my knowledge goes the company cannot actively change the price at which its shares are sold. the only time they can do this is during an IPO and from then on people determine the price.
If it were true that you could only sell to a buyer and not just get rid of your position then there would only be an upward trend in the market.
