Do stocks typically rise on average during the 4th quarter?
The reason I'm asking….The logic seems to be there, but I am a novice at this “game”. I'm looking to scoop up a few extra bluechip dividend yielding shares. I plan to hold onto them for the long term and build towards retirement. Due to the lower market values right now, I'm thinking about buying. I may wait and see if the market goes lower by about mid September. My assumption is that on average the market will shift upwards due to the holiday season in the 4th quarter. Looking at Budwiser, GE, GM, BP, Exon, Intel, and a few other mainstay companies right now.
Any advice on trends, historical averages, or heck even select dividen stocks would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!
