I want to sell some of my holdings in ASAN, currently have
75 at $78 bought 2021
135 at $37.5 bought 2022
50 at $37.7 bought 2022
70 at $37.75 bought 2022
Current average is $46
I want to sell 50 but don’t want to sell the $78 ones, ie FIFO so contacted broker and got to this point in discussion.
‘We do not report in our transactions (when you sell something) which buy it relates to so, for example
You buy 10 shares in ABC (1st transaction)
You buy 10 shares in ABC (2nd transaction)
You sell 10 shares in ABC – we do not display which transaction the sale relates to and we simply sell 10 of your shares.
The profit and loss / first in first out / last in first out is for you to decide and subsequently calculate and report (where required) to the tax authorities.’
Why can’t they tell me what ones I’m selling/I’ve sold? Then the loss isn’t known, the remaining average won’t be known.
It’s been a long time since I’ve sold due to this horrific year but what am I missing here?
