Everyone knows about Quantum Computing, but chances are, it’s not going to impact the day-to-day life of the average consumer.
It is focused on being very good on specific tasks, the public will never hold the tech in their hands.
Warning: I have a more than basic computer understanding lol.
Optical Computing on the other part, seems like the logical step towards the new generation of computing power.
It basically works by using light (photons) as a means of data transfer instead of using electrons.
It could revolutionize memory, data transfer, and processing power:
If successful, this technology could enable Terabytes per second transfers speeds as opposed as our current 100Gb/s (actual) max speed.
As for the memory, Optical Ram might come into play.
We’re talking 30 times faster than SRAM and a 1000 times faster than DRAM.
And our CPUs could be literally as fast as light itself.
It could largely reduce the production costs of hardware since we would use much less materials for a much greater transfer capacity.
All of this while consuming 40% less energy.
I’ve heard of the company Optalysys but it isn’t public yet.
Why isn’t this technology making more noise?
