Opened up a Roth IRA with husband – now what?

Hey all – I'm very new to investing. My husband is a little more well-versed on the subject.

I naively thought I could just open the Roth IRA – toss some money in it and let it do it's thing. I wasn't really aware we had to actually… PICK the stocks.

Anyway – I'm wondering what the best method is to go about choosing stocks?

Husband is 40 and I'm 38. Both have 401K's through our jobs and am really focused on funneling money to the Roth for retirement.

We opened the Roth with Rollover from my husbands 401K at his old job.

Some of the things my husband has stated:

“Most people invest aggressively at a younger age, because they have time on their side to roll with the punches. As they get older, they start shifting those assets into more conservative methods, like ETFs and other funds, bonds, etc, because they don't have as much time to recover from losses.”

“With the rollover, since we're not really contributing to it any longer, I feel it's best to just set it up in something somewhat conservative since we're not going to be adding more money to it.
But maybe I'm wrong. Could change that down the line.
With the Roth, we have the potential to buy some great companies on sale since we'll be adding more money to it”

Any insight would be super helpful!
