I’m brand(ish) new to trading and I’ve been getting really excited about it. I’m only playing with $2,000, and for now that’s where I’m going to stay until I start to get better. I’m taking more of a day to day approach right now and buying in increments of .02-.2 shares at a time, so I celebrate when I break even or above. I have been really curious about leveraged ETFs and have been reading up on the risks, but I’m wondering if there is a way for me to play with them using only very small amounts so as to avoid any crazy losses for now. I guess my question is: can I put in a penny and lose a few pennies if things go poorly? All of the warnings about the risks make it seem as if there is the potential to lose $100,000 from a penny, and my anxiety just wants to be sure that’s not going to happen. I know that it seems pointless to invest such a small amount, but I’m in it for the tiny wins right now. I don’t plan on putting any significant amount into anything until about a year from now, so my goal is just to learn by doing.
