Not sure if this is the right place for this but to preface, I don’t know anything about stocks and trading. I worked a lot at a high school job and had money sitting in the bank that I didn’t need. One of my high school teachers gave a talk about investing young so I went and did it with very little research. I since learned that I should have created a Roth IRA instead of the general investment account that I put around 8 grand into a basic index fund. It looks like I have to sell all of this in order to put it into a Roth IRA now. Is that correct and is this worth doing even though it’s only worth around 7k now and I would have to pay taxes on the sale? I would appreciate any advice you guys are willing to give!
