My perspective on why taking profits on long term holds is not a good idea

Had costco shares with cost basis of $312. Sold at peak for $604.

LTCG is 15% plus state, or $60 per share. If I were to buy back, I have to buy at a price below $544 to breakeven, factoring tax.

My view is unless one is planning to get rid of a stock for good, there is no point in selling and giving a cut to Uncle Sam.

Exceptions would be bubble stocks that I don't want to name in order to not offend anyone holding the stuff carriers.
