I bought into a fund a few months ago. I wouldn't exactly say that I got swept along with the AI thing, but I had a bonus and invested it in some ETFs and a few shares. One of these is an AI related fund. I figured AI was a good idea, it had a few stocks I liked.
But looking at it in more detail, I realised that a lot of the companies are dogs. I don't like them. And I'm paying a fund management company to look after it. I should have just looked at their fund, the top 20 stocks, checked them and done the research instead and bought a chunk of the 3 companies that I liked instead.
I'm still going to keep money in general market (S&P/FTSE 100) as this is simple, safe and lazy. But specific funds just feel like a bad idea. I might use them for research purposes, though.
