I am reviewing my senior parent's holdings and they own 64 shares of Microsoft and 46 shares of Intel. They don't recall buying either bc basically I help them with investing.
Previously held at TDAmeritrade, now held at Schwab. There is no cost basis information, even looking 10 yrs back at TDAmeritrade statements.
Unless my packrat parent can find older paper statements, we won't be able to determine the cost basis/date of purchase if they ever plan to sell them.
Looking at the total of 100 shares I am wondering, is it possible they were given these shares as some sort of distribution? Or maybe they inherited it? This came to mind just as I'm typing.
Asking if anyone knows how one can find the cost basis of shares if you don't know the date of purchase.
