Malaysia Approves Tesla’s Application to Import Electric Vehicles

Malaysia's government has approved Tesla's application to import its electric vehicles into the country.

Tesla will open an office in the country, introduce its Tesla Experience Centres and Tesla Service Centres, and establish its Supercharger network, Malaysia's ministry of international trade and industry said Wednesday in a statement.

“Tesla's presence in Malaysia is expected to create skilled and better paying job opportunities for workers in the battery electric vehicles segment and increase the participation of local companies in the Tesla ecosystem both domestically and globally,” it said.

The ministry said it is facilitating Tesla's entry to the country through a new initiative to boost demand for battery-powered electric vehicles and develop an entire ecosystem in the country.

The initiative aims to attract investments from top international electric-vehicle manufacturing companies to Malaysia and Tesla was the first applicant of this initiative, the ministry added.
