I’ve heard tons of people calling metaverse a scam, similar to how Christopher Natsuume described blockchain gaming as a pyramid scheme. Christopher believes that games should essentially be free to play, and if the game is entertaining enough, it doesn’t need to use P2E as a sugarcoat. I agree that some metaverses are just a gimmick, like I don't see what’s the fun in running around in a bot-filled Decentraland. However, I always feel that the value of everything is basically given by people, money and currency may likely be worthless unless people value them.
By the same token, when people say metaverse is boring, it really depends on the metaverse feature they’re looking into. (For me, it’s definitely PLAYABILITY) I personally like the concept of holoride, which enhances riding experiences by making VR glasses for backseat passengers…but probably not for everyone as it’s quite pricey. Another project on my radar is ChapterX, a new 3D virtual world with mini games. As a newborn platform, I kinda appreciate their update speed and diversity of worlds. I’ve been checking out there on and off for the past few weeks and there’s always something new every time I log in. Are they backed by Metaplex btw? Their growing speed makes sense if that’s the case. If they can get all bugs fixed ASAP, I will definitely stay in this metaverse longer.
