Is a notional market order always filled at or below the given dollar amount?

Lately I've started to use Alpaca to automate my investing, and I intend to always avoid having to spend margin. Therefore, I am using notional market orders. That is, I tell Alpaca the dollar amount's worth of stock I would like to purchase. However, is it possible for an order to be filled for a larger amount of money than requested?

For example; If I were to buy $500 worth of MSFT, is the order always filled at or below $500, or could it (due to rapid fluctuation) be filled for e.g., $501?
