Indexing vs Individual Stocks

I’ve decided i want to get my portfolio more to 75% SPY (or some variation of indexes) and 25% for individual stocks. I don’t believe i’m educated enough yet in researching companies, which is the move for this change. I also want to just start DCA'ing an index or ETF or something every month. Right now it’s more 35%/65% in the wrong direction.

  1. Do you guys think this would be a smart move?
  2. How should i go about doing this. I have some losses in a few of my individual stocks. I do really believe in these companies and stocks so i’d hate to sell at a loss to get money in the indexes. Also, would it be wiser to go in on one index or a variation of ETF's?

*i do have a long term mindset. i don’t need ANY of this money for anything.
