I’ve been wanting to invest for over a year now but I’ve been putting it off due to my own lack of knowledge as well as fear of a crash. I still have fears due to our situation of inflation, markets seeming way over valued/ in a bubble and all the other bearish things you constantly hear about. I’m trying to put these fears aside because as much as I think a correction is around the corner, I also know it could happen in a year, two years, 5 years or never!
I currently have a few thousand I could throw at the market and I have a job that will allow me to invest a few hundred monthly. I am thinking ETF’s are going to be a large chunk of my portfolio, about 50%, due to their nature of long term success and the rest of my portfolio will likely be tech companies, drug companies, maybe some commodities, etc. This breakdown of my portfolio is a rough idea of what I imagine it to look like and is due to change.
I am simply looking to counter act the effects of inflation on my savings and to make some profits in the long term. My Dad is willing to help me invest under his name so my age isn’t a problem. I understand I have a lot to learn as I barely have the basics down and that’s why I make this post, to get some advice and new perspectives from some people who may know a thing or two.
I am in Canada btw but most of my focus is on American markets.
