I'm just starting out in investing. I've been looking into it for a while lurking in some Reddit subs, YouTube channels, podcasts, playing with 212 paper stocks option and just finished reading “how to own the world” by Andrew Craig. I by no means feel like completely I'm even half way understanding everything but I keep reading the sooner you start the better. So what I am basically asking is what fund/s should I start with today?
I am 35 on 30k a year I have 80k in savings some from money saved, mostly from money I inherited from both sets of grandparents on the sale of their homes. I was planning on buying a buy to let flat as I am provided with a house for my job Which is rent free and council tax free. But I would have to get a mortgage to be able to afford a flat on my area and that with fees etc didn't seem to make sense hence why I have looked into investing. I have 32k in an easy access isa getting 3.2 and my current account is getting the same on 25k. Stupidity I've maxed out my ISA allowance for this year so if I invest I can't put it into a S&s ISA till April. I've opened one with trading 212 but can't use it yet. Just now I have put 1k into freetrade to dip my toe in but don't really know what to invest in or if I should just put my remaining cash I'm getting no interest on into this account too even tho it's not tax free?
I've read it doesn't matter what the price is just get in, but surely one must be slightly better than another that will make a difference in the long term. Help
