“If you hold long term, you’re fine” is a lie

Not to sound like an asshole, but in days like this we get heroes quoting Warren with “time in the market beats timing the market” and such.

One of the more popular ones is also “if you buy and hold for 10+ years, you're going to be fine!!”.

Just want new investors to not get fooled by this.

Some of the stocks that saw their ATH during the roaring 2020s and 2021s will not see its ATH ever again, ever.

Quality stocks (and not even all of them) – sure, but let's face it. Not everyone in this sub and in the world holds only FAANG and ETFs.

Realize that there's a notion called “opportunity cost” and some of the money you threw at these companies may never recover of freeze forever.

Passive investing can be dangerous too, be ready to manage your portfolio accordingly if needed.
