I feel betrayed by the ones who made it seem like investing was a no brainer

I want to start by saying it’s not anyone person's fault. If anything, it’s my fault. But damn, do I feel burnt by today’s systems: The stock market, the government's whole printing money thing, the cost of housing, the cost of College, Ect. Everything is just getting more out of reach. I honestly don’t believe people when they tell me to invest for the long term. Yeah, it might have worked for the newer generation, but why would it work for mine? How do I trust the people making decisions when they throw my money away via inflation for votes? I don’t understand how my generation can trust anyone before us. The market scares me because I have not had any substantial gain, but the losses just reached 10% today.

I’m sorry for the rant, and I appreciate you taking the time to read it if you did. To sum it up tho.
I don’t see how investing is worth my time. I have been in the market for over a year now, and my portfolio is down by 10%.
