I don't work in the tech industry, so I was wondering if any of you have an informed opinion on how strong SMCI's competitive advantage is ?
From what I understand, SMCI builds custom server racks using other companies hardware/components. Their knowledge/advantage lies in how efficient and ''first to market'' their rack builds are. I know they do a lot of testing and research. In their 10k, they say they own a lot of patents and feel confident their ''technology'' and ''know how'' is protected and will keep giving them a competitive advantage in the future.
Charles Liang (their founder and CEO) also owns multiple patents, but I didn't find any details on the internet.
I was wondering, considering they rely on other companies products, how reliable is their moat ?
From what I read, their main competitors are DELL and HPE. How easy or hard would it be for them to catch up ?
