I just wrote this email to the investor relations team:
Dear Investor Relations team,
I am a proud investor of Netflix, currently owning 12 shares. I really like how Netflix developed its high quality services. Since Netflix is struggling at this point, it is time for change.
Netlix management has considered implementing a low tier subscription model including advertisement to increase the profitability of the company. Honestly, I think this is the only way Netflix can continue grow and increase its revenues again. However, the type of advertisement is crucial.
Here is the idea: Often times when my girlfriend and I watch Netflix we notice interesting products during our favorite shows, e.g. a cool smart watch, a nice looking dress or a comfortable couch. Now if we really like the product, we are trying to find the product on the internet to buy it, but often we can not find the product we are looking for. Now here is the deal: Since Netflix is producing its own content, how cool would it be, if they use certain products in their shows (like product placement) and allows the viewer to buy it immediately on Netflix. How? Just pause the video if you like the product, check if this product is available (it should glow or be shiny or whatever so you can click on it), and just be forwarded to a marketplace to buy it (or at least a similar product). Importantly, this feature should be optional, so that you can turn it off in your settings, if you don't want to see any advertisement.
This would generate a new type of revenue stream, especially since there is a lot of personal bonding to certain types of shows, product placement should be easy and straight forward (e.g. letting the protagonist wear certain type of clothes or jewelry).
Could you please consider this idea and distribute it to the responsible individuals?
What do you guys think about this idea?
