The NASDAQ (interested in that cause that's where my money is rn) peaked at 16,057 points in november, 2021 and did nothing but drop in 2022 arriving at a bottom at 10,321 in october. It has since posted modest gains in 2023 but is still down 4,233 points or 26% from the peak.
In the tech bubble recession in the early 2000's, the NASDAQ peaked at 5049 points in may, 2000 but collapsed to 1210 by october 2002, or a 76% drop in value. In the 2008 crisis the NASDAQ lost 54% of its value over a similar period.
Some people have said that the current situation mirrors the 2000's tech bubble since there are many new/new-ish companies running around making 0 money and burning through investor cash but the Dow Jones and other indexes mostly weren't affected (by comparison) by the dot com crash. However like the NASDAQ, the Dow Jones, S&P and other indexes are all down since their 2021 peaks.
How much lower can it go?
