How does yield work?

I'm looking at ZWC, it has a 7.43% yield. Although how often is that 7.43%? Is that yearly? I've also seen others where the description says it offers monthly income at around 4.5%, is that 4.5% broken up over 12 payment each month, OR 4.5% each month?
