How do you use the PEG ratio on companies that are not yet profitable?

Using positive cash flows can be unreliable because there are many factors that can create this. How do you guys value non profitable companies. I learned to have projections for their earnings in the future. Would counting the growth of their bottom line as far as it straying away from negative be substantial in evaluating the PEG?
