I know right now everyone will predict that US stocks will outperform, because they did in recent years. And that past performance doesn’t have to repeat.
But I’m not sure how any other region could possibly outdo US stocks in the coming years? China doesn’t seem interested in protecting shareholders like the USA is. After this recent plunge, are foreign investors really going to pour money back into China? The government has shown very clearly they do not care to protect company profits.
Then we have Europe which has its own problems. I think there are some promising companies and countries there (like the Netherlands) but overall economic growth is below the USA, so I don’t see a big advantage.
The only other region I could see being competitive is SEA, but I’m not very familiar with that environment and if the stock markets there are meaningful enough. But there’s been lots of American investment into private SEA companies lately so I believe there might be a push to promote IPOs abroad.
What are your thoughts? Will the US be the best performer again in the next 10 years, or will we get a surprise (like we often do)?
