“Grab food” Apple orders are hot, Foxconn accuses rivals of “poaching” in Vietnam

Apple's top 200 global suppliers announced in 2021 found that of the 610 factories worldwide, the number of factories in mainland China totaled 259, or 42.46 percent, and 37 factories in Taiwan, China, accounted for 6.07 percent. And Vietnam factories are the most numerous among Southeast Asian countries.

In terms of trend, the number of suppliers with factories in Vietnam has gradually increased in the past four years, with only 14 in 2018, reaching 23 in 2021, with supply chain companies from China accounting for more than one-third of the total.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has previously said that he hopes to continue expanding the supply chain in Vietnam. Currently, Vietnam now has 160,000 people from 31 companies producing iPhones, AirPods, iPads, HomePodmini, MacBooks and other devices for Apple.

In order to compete for more orders from Apple, the foundry has started a “war for talent” in Vietnam, and the conflicts between them have gradually emerged.

As the helmsman of Foxconn, Liu Yangwei, who has always kept a low profile, even publicly “shouted” to competitors, “Don't follow Foxconn, to win Foxconn, rely on their own methods.”

According to Foxconn, its main competitors in Vietnam are Lixun Precision, which produces AirPods, Geer, and BYD, which is preparing to produce iPads.
