Gold Hedge Against Market Turbulence

So I’ve been searching various “research”websites for answers as to why gold and silver are weak relative to their historical strength in weak equity markets. Many analysts are citing a new breed of recession tied with inflation and the war weakening FX markets and strengthening the dollar like never before. Furthermore along with supply chain issues and wage inflation, gold miners are expected to underperform in upcoming quarters. All these reasons sound plausible however, I’m wondering whether the risk/reward of entering these high quality gold equities are positive enough to start a position in order to hedge. Other subreddits haven’t generally discussed the underperformance of gold and silver as much, and given many of us retail investors are looking for cheap/accurate hedges to ride out this downturn I thought to address this issue here! What do you guys think? Do you have any existing similar positions or are thinking of entering?

Thanks!
