Margin in my case created the illusion the money isn't really my money so it's easier to part ways with, make impulsive purchases, not necessarily purchases of bad companies but buying in at bad times just because you have the funds available to do so.
When it's actually your funds and not margin, you really have to make the conscious decision with added pressure “do I want to part with my hard-earned dollars for this trade?”. As someone with a year of using margin, I didn't realize how much better of a trader it can make you turning margin off.
Feel like an idiot for using margin now, think the decision making factor between your actual funds and margin is totally different. Now with this experience can say to other newbies prob best to avoid margin, at least in the beginning few years? Do more advanced users agree or disagree?
