Doing Research Into Sectors You Aren’t Familiar With?

Hey all, as we all know having a diversified portfolio is always a good thing, even more so in a choppy market like the one we are in right now. How do you do research into areas that you have no knowledge of though? For example, I'm a 18-year-old total zoomer, I know tech and some retail etc but know nothing about raw materials like oil or lumber, or anything to do with pharmaceuticals, energy etc. Where are good places to start? I know there are investors like Burry who have even found companies in other countries that are doing remarkably well.
